How it works

  1. Snap. Point at a label, a package, a building or a painting. Barcodes work too.
  2. Pick. We read the label and show our best guesses. Not sure? You choose.
  3. Read the story. Maker, origin, how it's made, the name, fun facts and related items, each with its source.

Free to try. Pro when you're hooked.

Questions

Where do the facts come from?

Wikipedia (text under CC BY-SA 4.0), Wikidata (CC0) and Open Food Facts, Open Beauty Facts and Open Products Facts (ODbL). Every section shows its source link. When a source has nothing on a topic, the card says "not found" instead of making something up.

Do you keep my photos?

No. Your phone shrinks the photo, sends it once to identify the item, and it is processed in memory and dropped. Only a fingerprint (hash) of the photo is kept for 7 days, so the same photo again comes back instantly. Saved items stay on your device.

Why not just use a lens or wine app?

Lens apps tell you what something is and where to buy it; wine apps focus on ratings and prices. Tellwren tells you the story: who made it, where it comes from, how it's made and why it's called that, in one card with the sources attached.

Why is there a daily photo limit?

Each photo is read by an AI vision model, which has a real daily cost. Typing a name or scanning a barcode uses no AI, so those stay free all day. On a very busy day the shared photo capacity can run out before midnight UTC; the app tells you, and typing still works.

Does it work for wine I'm drinking tonight?

Yes, for well-known labels and producers. Small or brand-new labels may not be in our sources yet; you'll see the closest matches and can type the producer's name instead.

Is it an app I need to install?

No. It runs in your phone's browser. To keep it on your home screen, use "Add to Home Screen" (iPhone: Share menu) or "Install app" (Android).
